Top 10 Best Magazine Covers of Vogue India

When you think of the most iconic magazine in the world, no matter who you are or your interests be, “Vogue” magazine almost always comes to mind.

Here are the ten most iconic covers of Vogue India ::

#10

The first issue of Vogue India in October 2007 shot by Patrick Demarchelier is a definitive first choice. Our launch edition saw the most beautiful clothes from the runways of Paris, Milan, New York, London, Mumbai and New Delhi shot by the best photographers in the world in the most stunning locales. Patrick Demarchelier captured supermodel Gemma Ward in Bollywood, Paolo Roversi conjured romance with Sasha Pivovarova in desert places, and Bharat Sikka created magic with Lily Cole in our chaotic metros. Fashion and Bollywood share a special synergy that we celebrated with our cover girls Bipasha Basu, Priyanka Chopra & Preity Zinta – talented actors who were the reigning style icons of the time.

#9
Vogue India’s January 2008 with Gauri Khan shot by Chris Craymer. It was Khan’s first solo cover and a coup of sorts considering how media shy she is known to be. That she is stylish, enigmatic and poised is known, but at the shoot we saw another side of her, that of a cover girl. Even in the frames she shared with her husband Shah Rukh Khan, she held her own impressively. She offered delightful peeks into her life, her wardrobe and her man.

#8

Shot by Suresh Natarajan, Kareena Kapoor Khan graced the cover of Vogue India in March 2008. Kareena’s performance as Geet in Jab We Met created 2007’s most endearing and effervescent Bollywood character by miles. Nothing is more stylish or attractive than a woman who embraces each stage of her life with such gusto: she’s the quintessential girl of summer. And it holds true even now!

#7

Super model Lakshmi Menon on the cover of Vogue India’s May 2009 issue. Shot by Jean-François Campos, Menon was the toast of the international runways in 2009, fresh from the success of having made her New York Fashion Week debut in 2008, walking for the likes of Carolina Herrera, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Ralph Lauren, and Vera Wang.  The year 2009 saw this rising star feature in Givenchy and Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall couture shows and H&M’s holiday campaign (2008). She made for an obvious and ideal choice as our May 2009 cover girl.

#6

Sonam Kapoor graced Vogue India’s January 2010, photographed by Suresh Natarajan. This was our Shape issue (our second in two years) where we celebrated the female form and helped readers dress for their body type. In cover girl Sonam Kapoor, we found a healthy role model who had managed to embrace every size she had been in – be it 90 kgs or the lithe, lissom self she is today. Kapoor brought a style of her own, a certain careless chic with a strong Parisian sensibility, while echoing my thoughts that your dress size isn’t integral to your happiness.

#5

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan on the cover of Vogue India’s February 2011 issue in a Roksanda Ilincic jacket, photographed by Marcin Tyszka and styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania. Our focus was on the ideal working woman and Aishwarya Rai, at that time, had mastered the art of doing it all, doing it well, and doing it in style – whether it was donning the role of a wife, daughter-in-law or award-winning actress.

#4

Vogue India’s March 2013 issue cover girl Priyanka Chopra, photographed by Tarun Vishwa and styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania. We chose Chopra, an actor with a delicious edge and fearless drive, to showcase the season’s boldest pieces. The dependably gorgeous diva is a thorough professional committed to her craft, relishing the challenge of movie roles that take her from glamorous to gritty.

#3

To celebrate our seventh anniversary in October 2014, Vogue India launched its initiative, #Vogue Empower. Shot by Farrokh Chothia, the cover featured twelve opinion makers and influencers who were some of our key ‘Agents of Change’ including Karan Johar, Deepika Padukone, Kangana Ranaut, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Barkha Dutt, Yuvraj Singh, Sudha Murthy, Ranveer Singh, Tanya Dubash and A. R. Rahman. The idea was to use our seventh anniversary issue as a platform to respond to the state of women in our country today, and to raise awareness with features and fashion editorials that draw focus to powerful, emancipated women.

#2

Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Fashion Director, Vogue India and photographed by Signe Vilstrup, Katrina Kaif brought the quintessential bohemian spirit to Vogue India’s September 2015 cover. Kaif let go of her Disney Princess trappings, for a wild-haired gypsy vibe, portraying a nomadic wanderer and a true free spirit. The icing on the cake was the elusive personality revealing the inner workings of her mind, only for Vogue.

#1

Vogue India’s October 2015 Anniversary issue featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh with the theme ‘India Cool’. Our take on India Cool was a deconstruction of her attributes, showcasing how Indians are making interesting and often unconventional choices - whether it’s treading lesser-known trails, turning to tradition with pride, being audacious, or embracing success, while at the same time opening up about vulnerabilities. Styled by Anaita Shroff Adajania, Fashion Director Vogue India and photographed by Tarun Vishwa, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, India’s coolest, played doubles for the magazine, doing a stellar job of portraying modern day “Coolth”.
